Dear Colleague:

For 35 years, the Science Council of New York City has been in the forefront of offering quality professional development for science educators. No Child Left Behind legislation still dominates teacher certification and professional development. Annual Yearly Progress will kick in with a third assessment, which in NYS might include science. These assessments are now found at all levels, elementary (ELS), intermediate (ILS) and commencement (Regents) necessitating that all science educators learn new and/or different techniques to teach science content, inquiry and pedagogical skills. Using the NSTA model, we are requesting workshops to align to these STRANDS: Science Content, Inquiry Skills or General Pedagogical Skills for Science Teaching and Science Leadership. Please consider presenting at the 35th ANNUAL SCONYC CONFERENCE on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Stuyvesant High School. Our policy is that workshop presenters do not pay a registration fee. Lunch will be provided on site for a nominal fee.

Workshop sessions are arranged with lead-time, which provides the presenter with greater flexibility in time for preparation and/or cleanup and visits to other conference activities.

Are you hesitant about presenting? You might want to consider working with another person.

.

All workshop presentations should show alignment with NY State MST Learning Standards, the Core Curricula and NYC Performance Standards for both, the specific level and science subject, (Living Environment, Physical Setting-Earth Science, Chemistry, or Physics and grade levels).

Please note: The deadline for workshop proposals is March 1, 2012 Proposals received after the deadline might not be considered. Confirmation of receipt of your proposal will be sent upon submission. Proposal acceptances will be sent during the week of March 18, 2012.
We look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Sincerely,

B. Ching
